STOP-MOTION ANIMATION PUPPETS
In the course of my career, I have sculpted various characters for stop-motion film and commercial productions. Sometimes I create the puppet from start to finish. In most cases however, I make only the clay sculpture. Then it is cast in foam rubber and finished by someone else. The character is posed in a neutral position in order to make the molding process easier. I typically use Roma Plastalina clay, sculpting directly over a ball and socket armature. That way the armature is guaranteed to fit inside the puppet perfectly. There is nothing like animating a character that you have personally sculpted! Click on an image for an enlarged view.
