STOP-MOTION ANIMATION PUPPETS
In the course of my career, I have
sculpted various characters for stop-motion film and commercial
productions. Sometimes I create the puppet from start to finish. In
most cases however, I make only the clay sculpture. Then it is cast
in foam rubber and finished by someone else. The character is posed
in a neutral position in order to make the molding process easier.
I typically use Roma Plastalina clay, sculpting directly over a
ball and socket armature. That way the armature is guaranteed to
fit inside the puppet perfectly. There is nothing like animating a
character that you have personally sculpted! Click on an image for
