Thoroughbred horses head for the finish line at historical Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, CA. The location is beautiful, with a picturesque backdrop of the San Gabriel mountain range. Here is a reverse angle of the iconic Hollywood sign, revealing a dramatic view of the hills, Los Angeles, and the distant ocean. To reach this location requires an uphill hike of several miles.

The Western Fence Lizard is very common where I live in Southern California. This little critter did not seem to mind my getting up close and personal for a portrait. Having assumed the lizard was a basic brown, I was surprised to see the blue iridescent belly, and yellow under the legs revealed by the fill-flash. It is a beautiful creature up close!
